photography #16

assignment 1: photography challenge
theme of this challenge was catchlights. i submitted the photo on the left. which do you like better?

assignment 2: more on portraiture, candid.
i had to submit one candid photo with a focus on capturing personality and emotion through photography. the top photo was my submission. :)

this doesn't exactally count as a candid cause i posed them, but i love this shot. :)

assignment 3: more on portraiture, group shots.
i had to submit a photo with three or more people that had groupings in triangles with relatively even spacing between the heads. this was the hardest part of the assignment this past week. because of circumstances beyond my control, i only had 5ish minutes to do a shoot with my younger siblings. real life. every part of photography homework isn't beautiful or simple. :) i'm pleased with my results considering the situation, but i would really like to do another group shoot just for fun to practice the techniques in a more relaxed environment.

photography #13-15

i've gotten way off my normal posting routine, but i took lots of great pictures over Christmas vacation.
i only had one official photography assignment for weeks 13-15. we learned about portraiture during the class before break. for homework i had to take one candid shot and one technically correct 3-quarter view of a face. for the three-quarter view there are three things to remember:
-the nose cannot extend past the outline of the face.
-only one ear can be visible. (even if it's hidden by hair)
-there has to be a little skin by the far eye.

three-quarter view
candid :)
here are a few [or a million =] shots from vacation:

i took our family christmas picture, did a shoot with my sister, and have an assignment from last week that i will share soon...

everyday style

a few favorites

a cute, structured hoodie instead of a 5 year old sweatshirt?
some olive colored skinnies instead of ratty jeans?
comfy, flat boots instead of sad sneakers?

worn, loved clothes are like old friends. but on the days when you're tired and ready for the tattered sweatshirt, look for something in your closet with the everyday comfy but a little more style.

i'm happy about...

::a fun country fair with friends.

::a four-day rest from volleyball.

::playing music for church with a friend. perhaps my favorite form of worship.

this picture is a bit old, but still so us.
::an evening filled with laughter, singing, carmel brownies, and apples to apples.
pictures of my labor day to come.... good night.

sometimes being tired means:

you go to bed so you can try again tomorrow. xo

tidbits.

it's been a very busy week... between school and volleyball and my family-- oh and the rest of life-- i've been on the go quite a bit.

this past week has been the first official week of my senior volleyball season. i. love. volleyball. and i'm pumped about the season... [team stats are here btw.]

on thursday i spend the morning with a friend. even though we had to go to pinehurst for an appointment, it was so lovely to be real and be together.

my family switched around rooms this summer, and i'm still settling into my new space. i'll show you before and after pictures soon. but this week, i've hung wall collages and organized and decorated... a little inspiration: i did something like this. and this is how i hung the collages.

i've been missing my sister who went back to college last sunday... she leaves for ireland tomorrow, and she skyped to say goodbye this afternoon. *sniff* i'm so thrilled for her, but having her on the other side of the world will be different.

to end on a happier note: i had two power-ade slushes from sonic this past week. life must be good. : )

thanks for listening. and for being here. have a wonderful week.
