photography #24

i got handed 1 small object.
with my eyes closed, i had to "get to know" said object.
after 4 or 5 minutes, the object got taken away.
4 similar objects including the one i held for 5 minutes were placed in front of me.
i had to pick the one i had gotten to know.

they were rocks.
i picked the right rock on the first try.
: )

then i took it outside and did the rest of the assignment.
aka the actual shoot. : )

my favorite shot. [submitted]

my woulda-coulda-shoulda shot. [submitted]
i love the idea of this picture, but i wish the background was a straight line. and i wish the rock filled more of the frame.

another favorite.

photography #22

i had to shoot 25 completely different frames within a 15x15 square... it's a little harder than it sounds. : ) i submitted the two pictures below.

i did my assignment while my family and i were out of town on vacation. here are some of my other favorite shots from the trip.

photography #21

my assignment for week 21 was to take three different shots of the same subject.
shot 1: a picture using color to set off the subject
shot 2: a high contrast, black and white image
shot 3: a shot with supporting elements that help tell a story

i had a lot of trouble coming up with a fun subject... i really couldn't figure it out, but once i did, i got some fantastic shots. the black and white image is one of my favorites. i submitted the top three photos. which is your favorite?

i like this image better than the one i submmited. the blue sets off the yellow and pink better and gives the shot more continuity.

i love the reflection in this shot so much. : )

this assignment pushed me out of my comfort zone, but i really enjoyed the shoots i did. the results i got were rewarding.

photography #20

during this week i learned a lot about color theory. the assignment was to take one shot that showed use of complementary colors [opposites on the color wheel like blue/orange or red/green] and one shot that was a monochromatic color scheme [all one similar color like differing tones of blue or a black and white shot]. i submitted the top two shots. i've realized that i like the third shot quite a bit better than the second. : ) oh well.

photography #19

the assignment: This is your story. “A blessing in disguise” will be your concept, topic, or message for one photo that you will concept and then create this week. The direction you choose to go is completely up to you as an artist.

what blessing in disguise do you think i tried to capture?

photography #17-18

week 17 and 18 i learned about photojournalism [photoJ]. for my assignment, i picked to shoot my little sister's two year old birthday party. the goal was to tell a story through a series of pictures. the first four pictures are the one i submitted. : )

photography #16

assignment 1: photography challenge
theme of this challenge was catchlights. i submitted the photo on the left. which do you like better?

assignment 2: more on portraiture, candid.
i had to submit one candid photo with a focus on capturing personality and emotion through photography. the top photo was my submission. :)

this doesn't exactally count as a candid cause i posed them, but i love this shot. :)

assignment 3: more on portraiture, group shots.
i had to submit a photo with three or more people that had groupings in triangles with relatively even spacing between the heads. this was the hardest part of the assignment this past week. because of circumstances beyond my control, i only had 5ish minutes to do a shoot with my younger siblings. real life. every part of photography homework isn't beautiful or simple. :) i'm pleased with my results considering the situation, but i would really like to do another group shoot just for fun to practice the techniques in a more relaxed environment.

photography #13-15

i've gotten way off my normal posting routine, but i took lots of great pictures over Christmas vacation.
i only had one official photography assignment for weeks 13-15. we learned about portraiture during the class before break. for homework i had to take one candid shot and one technically correct 3-quarter view of a face. for the three-quarter view there are three things to remember:
-the nose cannot extend past the outline of the face.
-only one ear can be visible. (even if it's hidden by hair)
-there has to be a little skin by the far eye.

three-quarter view
candid :)
here are a few [or a million =] shots from vacation:

i took our family christmas picture, did a shoot with my sister, and have an assignment from last week that i will share soon...
